I'm not big on idolizing movie stars or singers, BUT tomorrow is Madonna's 50th birthday and she has been around for a while.
Here are some memories I have of Madonna over the past 25 years.
* A League of Their Own was one of my favorite movies.
* On MTV (when they showed videos) they had a contest and you could submit your own video to her song "True Blue". My friend Kevin and I were impressed that people could afford a video camera and much less - make a good video.
* Once at the Carolina Circle Mall my cousin was talking to a guy in our car, and Madonna's song "Dress You Up (In My Love)" came on, I was singing it b/c the other guy (Bryan Woods) wasn't talking to me and I got to the part in the song when she sings, "I'd love you from your head down to your toooo-ohs." He looked at me and dryly said, "That wouldn't be very far for you would it?"
* My cousin was in love with this boy and was convinced "Crazy For You" was "their song". She listened to it a zillion times.
* "Like a Virgin" was popular when my freshman class went to Washington DC. That song always reminds me of that trip.
* On Saturday Night Live, 1) she was truly surprised when Barbara Streisand showed up 2) Wayne & Garth imagined they were in her video "Justify My Love" 3) Right after she married Sean Penn she hosted the show and made the comment about "You all missed the invitation to our wedding." Though there was much secrecy and canopies covering the wedding - helicopters appeared. All classic Madonna/SNL moments.
* "Like A Prayer" was playing whenever I drove my car into a tree (because I dodged a chicken that crossed the road).
* "Live to Tell" was in a movie "At Close Range" that starred Christopher Walken, and he had a line in the movie that said, "One day, you're going to say Daddy give me something." That line reminds me of an old boss.
So HAPPY BIRTHDAY MADONNA. Keep your clothes on!!!!
